HIGH QUALITY
COFFEE with
a SOCIAL CONSCIENCE

Kimco is a Ugandan social enterprise. We grow, process, and distribute high-quality Robusta coffee.
We work across the entire value chain, from the coffee plantation to the milling factory, processing, roasting, and packing.
We produce high-quality coffee from beans grown on our family farm in the Lake Victoria basin. We also partner with smallholder local farmers in the district of Lwengo.
Lwengo is renowned for its uniquely flavoured Robusta, grown at high altitudes in warm and humid temperatures. This lends it its characteristic complex flavour that consistently scores 80+ cupping scores.
You can expect a spicy, fruity and buttery, medium to well-balanced, clean, sweet profile coffee with chocolate notes.
At Kimco, our focus is on promoting women's gainful participation in the coffee value chain. We want to produce the highest quality coffee we can while improving the socio-economic conditions of smallholder female coffee farmers and children in our district.

STOPPING CHILD LABOUR & EXPLOITATION IN COFFEE FARMING
15% of our profits go directly to a project that prevents child exploitation in coffee-growing communities in Lwengo.
We work with 104 farmers across the district. Of these, 60 active smallholder farmers produce about 40,000 tonnes of coffee a year.
Children should be in school, not working in the fields. We strive to source our coffee beans from those who do not use child labour on their farms.

TRAININGS
The trainings are aimed at mobilizing and encouraging women and youth to join the coffee sector, increase productivity of the existing smallholder coffee farmers as well as provide them with knowledge on quality coffee production. The main focus areas of the trainings are improved coffee farming practices, harvesting, postharvest handling, value addition and marketing. We are encouraging women and youth to join the coffee sector particularly at lower levels of the value chain as innovators and business owners with an aim to earn more from coffee.
PROVISION of AGRICULTURAL INPUT CREDIT:
We provide agricultural input credit to women coffee farmer groups which they use to buy fertilizers and farm tools with the expectation to pay back after their coffee sales. We provide such credit to individuals as well. The rationale is to ensure that our farmers are facilitated with some working cash since they are considered risky to get any credit if at all from the banks.
Raising awareness about the importance of education and the cost of child labour:
We conduct awareness in the coffee growing communities of Lwengo about the importance of education and the socioeconomic costs of child labour. The intention is to minimize the risk of children not going to school and instead engage in income generating activities to contribute to family income.
